Security agencies ramped up their presence across key areas of Abuja on Wednesday as protesters gathered to mark Democracy Day with demonstrations against rising economic challenges and insecurity in the country.
The protest, which began in the Apo district of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), saw participants chanting solidarity songs and displaying placards highlighting their concerns over worsening living conditions and growing insecurity.
Security operatives were strategically deployed across the city, including prominent locations such as Eagle Square, the National Assembly, and major intersections. Their presence was intended to ensure public safety and maintain order as the protests unfolded.
While the demonstration remained peaceful as of press time, law enforcement officers maintained close watch to prevent any disruptions.
The June 12 protest comes amid increasing public dissatisfaction with economic conditions, cost of living, and security issues. Though no major incidents were reported, authorities continue to monitor the situation as events develop.
