The House of Representatives has approved the second reading of the proposed ₦1.738 trillion budget for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) for the 2025 fiscal year.

The budget bill, presented during Tuesday’s plenary by House Leader Prof. Julius Ihonvbere, received backing from Minority Leader Rep. Kingsley Chinda and was subsequently endorsed through a voice vote led by Speaker Abbas Tajuddeen.

The spending proposal had earlier been submitted to the House by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in a formal communication addressed to the Speaker and read on the floor on May 13.

With the second reading now complete, the bill has been referred to the House Committee on Federal Capital Territory as well as the Committee on FCT Area Councils and Ancillary Matters for detailed scrutiny and legislative review.

The budget outlines the financial blueprint for managing the FCT in 2025, covering key sectors including infrastructure, healthcare, education, and security, though further details will emerge during committee deliberations.
