The Ilorin Central Jumma’at Mosque has announced that its 250-bed student hostel project at the University of Ilorin, worth ₦1.1 billion, will now be fully funded and completed by industrialist Alhaji Aliko Dangote. The initiative was conceived to provide sustainable income for the upkeep and operations of the mosque.

Shehu AbdulGafar, Secretary of the mosque’s Board of Trustees, confirmed that a Memorandum of Understanding has been signed with the university, granting the mosque ownership and management of the hostel for 21 years before its eventual transfer to UNILORIN.

In addition to taking over the construction, Dangote has pledged a monthly donation of ₦5 million toward the mosque’s maintenance until the hostel project is delivered, a commitment that has already commenced.

The facility, when completed, is expected to ease accommodation pressure on campus while serving as a steady revenue stream for the mosque.
