The Gombe State Independent Electoral Commission (GOSIEC) has sought collaboration with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as it prepares to conduct local government elections scheduled for April 2026.

A delegation from GOSIEC, led by Dr. Abubakar Abdullahi, Permanent Commissioner for Planning, Research and Statistics, visited the INEC State Office in Gombe on Wednesday. Dr. Abdullahi, who represented the GOSIEC Chairman, commended INEC for its remarkable strides over the past decade, particularly in the deployment of technology to strengthen Nigeria’s electoral process.

He also presented the timetable and schedule of activities for the 2026 local government elections to INEC’s Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Dr. Sa’ad Umar Idris, while requesting technical assistance in critical areas of election management.

In his response, Dr. Idris assured the delegation of INEC’s readiness to provide support, particularly in training and technical assistance. He also briefed the visitors on the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise in the state, emphasizing its importance in ensuring credible elections at all levels.
