The Niger State Police Command has arrested a 24-year-old woman, Nana Mubarak, for allegedly breaking into her mother’s tenant’s residence and carting away household items valued at approximately ₦1 million.
According to a statement by the command’s spokesperson, SP Wasiu Abiodun, the incident occurred in the El-Waziri area of Minna on May 27, 2025. The suspect, a housewife and nursing mother residing in the Angwan-Biri area, was arrested following an intelligence-led investigation by the Bosso Police Division.
The stolen items include an LG 32-inch plasma television, an electric stove, a half bag of charcoal, extension boxes, a 6kg gas cylinder, an electric blender, cooking pots, pressing irons, rubber basins, 18 pieces of wrappers, and several kitchen utensils.
The police explained that the victim, a tenant, returned from work and discovered his apartment had been burglarized. Upon investigation, officers traced the theft to Nana Mubarak, who later confessed to committing the act while the tenants—a couple—were away.
During interrogation, Mubarak admitted to personally carrying the stolen items to her residence. A search of her home led to the recovery of all missing items except the television, which she claimed to have sold for ₦55,000 to one Abdullahi Aliyu of Kasuwan-Gwari, Minna. The TV was subsequently recovered from the buyer.
Police authorities have confirmed that the suspect will face prosecution, and further investigations are ongoing. The case underscores the need for vigilance and security even within residential premises shared with familiar occupants.
