The Federal Republic of Nigeria has congratulated the Government and people of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam on the occasion of the country’s 80th Independence Anniversary.

The statement reads: In a goodwill message, Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, conveyed warm felicitations to Vietnam’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Bùi Thanh Sơn, praising the resilience and unity of the Vietnamese people in their journey toward sovereignty, peace, and national development.
Ambassador Tuggar noted that Nigeria shares in the celebration of this historic milestone, emphasizing the shared values of freedom, progress, and international cooperation that bind both nations.
Diplomatic relations between Nigeria and Vietnam were formally established in 1976 during Vietnam’s struggle for reunification and further strengthened with the opening of diplomatic missions in each other’s capitals in 2007. Since then, ties have been nurtured through collaboration in trade, agriculture, investment, education, and multilateral engagements.
As of the last quarter of 2024, trade between both countries stood at approximately $1 billion, making Vietnam a key trade partner of Nigeria. The two countries also cooperate closely at the United Nations and other multilateral platforms, championing global peace, sustainable development, and South-South cooperation.
On this occasion, Nigeria reaffirmed its readiness to deepen bilateral relations with Vietnam, explore new areas of cooperation, and promote greater people-to-people ties for the mutual benefit of both nations.
Nigeria further extended its wishes of peace, prosperity, and continued progress to the Government and people of Vietnam, while assuring them of its enduring friendship and partnership.
