The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has crushed 601 commercial motorcycles impounded for violating traffic regulations in Abuja. The enforcement action was carried out by the Directorate of Road Traffic Services (DRTS) on Tuesday.
According to Dr. Elechi Chinedum, Mandate Secretary of the Transportation Secretariat, the motorcycles were seized for operating in areas where commercial motorcycle use is prohibited under FCTA regulations.
“The law empowers us to impound and crush any commercial motorcycle operating illegally in designated no-go areas,” Chinedum said, emphasizing that the measure is about enforcing regulations, not punishment. He warned that further violations would be met with the same consequences.
DRTS Director, Dr. Abdulateef Bello, added that the crackdown aims to curb traffic violations and enhance safety across the Federal Capital Territory.
