President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended warm congratulations to the Oniru of Iru Kingdom, Oba Abdulwasiu Omogbolahan Lawal, Abisogun II, on the occasion of his 55th birthday. He praised the monarch as a shining example of leadership, dedication, and service to the people.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu commended the traditional ruler for his unwavering commitment to the development of Iru Kingdom and Lagos State.
The President reflected on Oba Lawal’s role as his Aide-de-Camp during his time as Governor of Lagos State, describing him as a man of strong character, loyalty, and leadership.
Oba Lawal retired from the Nigeria Police Force as a Superintendent before advancing his education and returning to serve Lagos State in key positions, including Commissioner for Housing, Agriculture, and Cooperatives. In 2020, he ascended the throne as the 15th Oniru of Iru Kingdom.
President Tinubu lauded the monarch’s impact on his community through programs that support education, healthcare, and economic opportunities. He also praised Oba Lawal’s recent book, From City to Megacity: A Memoir of Lagos Urbanisation (1999–2023), calling it an important contribution to the conversation on urban development.
As Oba Lawal marked his 55th birthday on July 24, the President offered prayers for his continued reign, peace in Iru Kingdom, and progress across Lagos State.
