The ongoing renovation of the Rivers State House of Assembly complex is nearing completion, bringing relief to lawmakers and staff who have long awaited the upgrade.

Workers were seen putting finishing touches to the building, which had undergone months of repairs aimed at improving its structural safety and functionality. The complex, located in Port Harcourt, had been shut down after its facilities deteriorated, forcing legislators to operate from temporary spaces.

Speaking during an inspection of the project, a site engineer expressed confidence that the building would soon be ready for use. “We are in the final phase of the renovation. What remains now are the electrical fittings, painting, and a few interior adjustments. Once completed, the Assembly complex will meet modern standards,” he said.

Lawmakers have also expressed satisfaction with the progress. One member described the development as a welcome relief. “This is more than just a building; it is the seat of our democracy in Rivers State. We are happy to see that work is progressing well and that soon, we will return to a more conducive environment to carry out our duties,” he stated.

Staff working around the complex also voiced optimism. “For months, we had to operate in makeshift conditions. Returning to a properly renovated Assembly will improve efficiency and morale,” a staff member noted.

Residents of the state have praised the renovation effort, stressing the importance of maintaining public institutions. A Port Harcourt resident remarked, “The Assembly is a symbol of governance. Its repair is long overdue, and we are glad that the work is almost done.”

The renovated Assembly complex is expected to reopen officially once all final checks are concluded.
