Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has announced that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will soon commission the world’s largest cotton and polyester processing factory at the Special Agro-Processing Zone in Iperu/Ilisan, near the Gateway International Airport.
Governor Abiodun made the disclosure while receiving a delegation led by the former Accountant General of the Federation, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Madein, and members of the Iperu Development Association, at the Governor’s Office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
According to the governor, the massive industrial facility is part of the “Renewed Hope Cotton Resurgent Initiative” and will span 400 hectares, generating employment for about 250,000 people daily.
“We are clearing the site already. The factory will transform 400 hectares into what is essentially a new industrial town. The ripple effects on Iperu, Remoland, Ijebuland, and the entire Ogun State economy are enormous,” Abiodun said.
He also revealed that the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) plans to establish a base in the area to provide security for both the airport and surrounding communities — further boosting investor confidence.
Strategic Development in Iperu
Governor Abiodun explained that Iperu was selected for the airport and agro-processing hub due to its central location and accessibility within Ogun State. The area is already witnessing rapid development, with 100 new housing units at the Airport Housing Estate nearing completion.
Other government-led infrastructure projects include the reconstruction of major township roads, upgrades to public schools, and the establishment of a Mother and Child Hospital in the town.
Celebrating Excellence and Investment
Abiodun praised Mrs. Madein for her distinguished public service career and contributions to national development, describing her as “a pride to womanhood and a model for integrity and excellence.”
“You started your journey right here in Iperu and rose to the pinnacle of public service. Your story is a testament that gender should never be a barrier to achievement,” the governor remarked.
In response, Mrs. Madein thanked the governor for fostering an investor-friendly environment that continues to attract major projects to Ogun State.
“I came to present my stewardship as the former Accountant General of the Federation and to thank you for the support that enabled my successful tenure,” she said.
Community Leaders Applaud Transformation
Speaking on behalf of the Iperu Development Association, Otunba Taiwo Oyebanjo lauded the governor’s efforts, noting the significant uplift in infrastructure and living standards.
Also commending the administration, Oba Lukman Salami, the Ebi of Idena, remarked that Iperu had transitioned from a quiet town to a growing urban hub with modern amenities.
