FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has inaugurated the 5.4-kilometre Karu Road project, assuring residents that the dual carriageway will be completed within 10 months.
At the inauguration ceremony in Karu, Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Wike explained that the road project is part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. He stressed that the initiative will extend development beyond the city centre to satellite communities.
Addressing the crowd, the Minister declared: “This is your turn, the people of Karu. The Renewed Hope Agenda is about bringing back hope. With this road, Karu’s environment will be transformed. I will personally monitor the project to ensure it is completed within 10 months.”
He further noted that the road will include solar-powered streetlights and urged residents to protect the project once delivered. Wike also praised AMAC Chairman, Christopher Zakka Maikalangu, and former Senator Philip Aduda for their contributions to Karu’s development.
In recognising the contractor, Abdul Val Nigeria Limited, Wike commended its past performance, citing the successful completion of the 16-kilometre Bwari dual carriageway as proof of the company’s capacity. He warned that the firm must work continuously, even during the rainy season, since mobilization funds had already been paid.
Minister of State for the FCT, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, added that the administration remains committed to people-focused projects. She recalled the recent inauguration of a major water supply scheme for Karu and surrounding communities.
Expressing her gratitude, Mahmoud said: “On behalf of the people of Karu and indeed the FCT, I extend our gratitude to President Tinubu. His Renewed Hope Agenda is manifesting in projects that touch lives. We also thank Minister Wike for his leadership, which is transforming Abuja.”
Providing technical details, Coordinator of the Satellite Towns Development Department (STDD), Abdulkadir Zulkiflu, explained that the work will cover site clearance, earthworks, culverts, lined drains, walkways, asphalt surfacing, and solar-powered streetlights.
According to Zulkiflu, the Karu Road will also connect to the rehabilitated Nyanya–Karshi Road. This link, he noted, will ease traffic flow and strengthen socio-economic activities in Karu and nearby towns. “This project is more than just a road. It completes the Nyanya–Karshi network and ensures easier movement of people and goods,” he said.
