The Federal Executive Council has given the green light to a new Group Life Assurance Scheme covering the 2025–2026 period for public servants across the country.

This newly approved insurance plan will extend coverage to a wide range of government personnel, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, senior officials, and employees in various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs). Military and paramilitary officers are also included among the beneficiaries.

The announcement was made in a statement issued by Kamorudeen Yusuf, Special Assistant to the President on Special Duties, who described the initiative as a clear demonstration of the administration’s dedication to worker welfare and long-term support for government employees and their families.

“The Tinubu administration is committed to improving the welfare of federal workers through practical and compassionate policies,” the statement read. “This life assurance scheme serves not just as a financial buffer, but as a symbol of the value placed on the contributions of civil servants.”

According to Yusuf, 17 insurance companies have been selected to manage the scheme and ensure timely support to families of deceased federal workers.

He added that the initiative aligns with the broader goals of the Renewed Hope Agenda, which aims to uplift the dignity and wellbeing of Nigeria’s workforce.

“This policy reflects a forward-thinking approach that acknowledges the service and sacrifices of public servants,” he said. “It’s about providing stability, security, and respect for the lives and families of those who dedicate themselves to the nation.”
