The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) has called on its newly inducted fellows to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, ethics, and responsibility as they contribute to national development through engineering.
During a ceremony in Abuja, where 261 engineers were conferred with the prestigious fellowship of the society, the NSE leadership reminded the inductees that the recognition comes with expectations of continued excellence and integrity.
“This honour is not just a celebration of past achievements—it is a call to serve at a higher level,” said the president of the NSE, addressing the new fellows. “The society reserves the right to withdraw this status from anyone whose conduct undermines the dignity of our profession.”
The president underscored the essential role of engineers in shaping Nigeria’s future, particularly in tackling challenges in infrastructure, energy, transportation, housing, and public services. She added that engineers must remain at the forefront of innovation and nation-building efforts.
Highlighting the society’s efforts to build capacity and promote innovation, she noted ongoing collaborations with both public and private stakeholders. These partnerships are focused on advancing agricultural entrepreneurship, vocational training, and digital technology adoption.
“Our vision is to inspire leadership and foster growth across sectors by equipping engineers to meet the evolving needs of the country,” she said. “Their elevation is a recognition of outstanding accomplishments and unwavering dedication to engineering and technological advancement.”
Also speaking at the event, the chairman of the board of fellows praised the inductees for their commitment and contributions, describing them as role models in the engineering community.
In a separate event, the NSE president reiterated the need for unity and collaboration within the engineering sector, noting that professional compliance and collective action are critical to advancing industry standards.
Speaking at the 33rd Engineering Assembly themed ‘Advancing Quality Engineering Services and Businesses in Nigeria: Professional Compliance and Remuneration’, she affirmed the society’s continued support for regulatory efforts aimed at enhancing the profession.
“We remain committed to supporting initiatives that elevate engineering excellence and contribute meaningfully to national progress,” she concluded.
