President William Ruto on Monday launched the first phase of infrastructure and smart city facilities at Konza Technopolis, marking its readiness as a hub for digital innovation and investment.

Themed “Powering Kenya’s Future, A Smart City Open for Investment,” the event featured key installations, including the Solid Waste Collection Facility, a 120MV Power Distribution Substation, and the Silicon Savannah Intelligent Operations and Experience Centre showcasing real-time smart city technologies.

Ruto also laid the foundation for the Konza Affordable Housing Project, which will deliver 10,000 homes, adding to the 3,000 units already under construction.

“Konza Technopolis represents the spirit of a new Kenya innovative, forward-looking, and globally competitive,” the President said.

ICT Cabinet Secretary William Kabogo said Ruto’s presence affirmed investor confidence.

“Konza is open, secure, and ready to host the future of African tech,” he stated.

Designated a Special Economic Zone, Konza offers major incentives, including a 10% corporate tax rate for the first decade and VAT and Stamp Duty exemptions.

Konza CEO John Paul Okwiri said over 80% of Phase 1 parcels have been allocated to investors, adding, “We have the capacity, efficiency, and conviction to deliver Kenya’s transformation.”
