President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the establishment of the National Tax Policy Implementation Committee (NTPIC) to ensure the full execution of his administration’s landmark tax reforms aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s economy.
The committee will be chaired by Joseph Tegbe, a Fellow of both the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (FCA) and the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (FCIT).
Tegbe brings over 35 years of professional experience across public and private sectors, including his role as a former senior partner and head of advisory at KPMG Africa.
The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, will supervise the committee’s work, while Sanyade Okoli, Special Adviser to the President on Finance and Economy, will serve as Secretary. Other committee members include Ismaeel Ahmed, Rukaiya El-Rufai, and several experts from tax administration, finance, law, civil society, and the private sector.
According to President Tinubu, the effective implementation of the nation’s tax laws is central to his administration’s economic transformation agenda, essential for improving public financial management, and critical to maintaining investor confidence and supporting productive sectors.
The NTPIC has been tasked with:
-
Conducting broad stakeholder consultations, including nationwide engagements with the private sector, professional bodies, subnational governments, and the public.
-
Coordinating inter-agency collaboration by aligning revenue and regulatory institutions with newly introduced tax statutes.
-
Harmonising existing frameworks with new laws and ensuring unified oversight throughout the transition period.
-
Leading public awareness initiatives to support compliance and smooth implementation.
Minister Wale Edun noted that the committee’s creation signals the President’s determination to reset Nigeria’s tax and fiscal policy landscape for meaningful economic growth.
The NTPIC is expected to boost revenue mobilisation, minimise leakages, improve accountability, and enhance the government’s fiscal sustainability as part of broader national development goals.
