The Ghana Police Service has debunked widespread rumours alleging that the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has died.
The Service described the claim as false, malicious, and designed to cause public panic.
In an official statement, the Police stressed that the IGP is “alive, well and actively performing his duties.” The Service urged officers, the general public, and the media to disregard the circulating misinformation.
The Police further cautioned individuals responsible for spreading the rumour. The statement noted that sharing unverified or false information is a criminal offense under Ghanaian law. It warned that anyone found culpable will face legal consequences.
Authorities emphasised the need for responsible information sharing, especially regarding sensitive national security matters. According to the Police, such false reports undermine public trust and threaten societal stability.
