President Bola Tinubu has approved a minor reshuffle of the Federal Executive Council (FEC), involving changes in key economic and housing portfolios.
According to a memo signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, the adjustment affects the Ministry of Finance and Coordinating Economy as well as the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development.
In the new arrangement, Mr. Taiwo Oyedele has been elevated to serve as Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy. He previously served as Minister of State in the same ministry.
The outgoing minister, Wale Edun, has been directed to formally hand over responsibilities as part of the transition process.
In the housing sector, Dr. Muttaqha Rabe Darma has been nominated as Minister-Designate for Housing and Urban Development. His appointment is subject to Senate confirmation.
The memo also directed Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa to hand over to the Minister of State in the ministry pending the completion of Darma’s confirmation process.
All handover and takeover activities are expected to be concluded on or before Thursday, April 23, 2026.
Explaining the rationale behind the reshuffle, the SGF stated that the changes are aimed at strengthening coordination, improving policy synergy, and enhancing economic delivery under the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The Presidency noted that the President acted in line with constitutional provisions granting him authority to reorganise the Federal Executive Council as necessary for governance efficiency.
The statement also conveyed appreciation to outgoing ministers for their service, while reaffirming that further adjustments to the cabinet remain possible as part of ongoing government reinvigoration.
