Army Commissions 30 Family Housing Units at Ribadu Cantonment, Kaduna
The Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, has unveiled 30 newly completed family accommodation units at Ribadu Cantonment in Kaduna as part of efforts by the Nigerian Army to improve the welfare and living conditions of its personnel and their families.
The accommodation units were unveiled on Thursday, September 24, 2026, as part of the Army’s ongoing infrastructure development and renewal programme aimed at improving facilities across its formations and units nationwide.
The project consists of two blocks of family housing units and is expected to ease pressure on existing accommodation within Ribadu Cantonment while providing a more conducive living environment for military personnel and their families.
Speaking during the unveiling, Shaibu said the provision of decent accommodation remained an important component of personnel welfare and effective administration under his Command Philosophy.
He noted that the wellbeing of soldiers and their families had a direct bearing on their morale, motivation and operational effectiveness.
According to the Chief of Army Staff, the need for additional accommodation has become more important as the Nigerian Army continues to expand its force structure and operational reach.
He said the growth of the Army must be matched with corresponding investment in infrastructure and welfare facilities capable of supporting personnel and their families.
Shaibu explained that Ribadu Cantonment accommodates several Nigerian Army establishments, making the provision of additional family accommodation particularly important in reducing pressure on existing facilities.
He urged the beneficiaries of the new housing units to take ownership of the facilities and ensure that they are properly used and maintained.
The COAS also disclosed that similar accommodation projects were ongoing in barracks and cantonments across the country.
He said the projects were part of broader efforts to rehabilitate ageing infrastructure and provide additional facilities in response to the changing operational and welfare requirements of the Nigerian Army.
Shaibu expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, for continued support and provision of resources aimed at improving the welfare and living conditions of Nigerian Army personnel and their families.
Earlier, the General Officer Commanding 1 Division Nigerian Army, Maj.-Gen. Abubakar Muhammed Wase, commended the Chief of Army Staff for prioritising the welfare of troops.
Wase described the project as timely and said the new accommodation would contribute to improving the living conditions of personnel and their families.
He assured that the facilities would be properly utilised and maintained.
The Nigerian Army said the Ribadu Cantonment project forms part of a wider infrastructure renewal programme covering barracks and cantonments in different parts of the country.
The ongoing interventions are intended to address accommodation challenges, rehabilitate ageing facilities and provide infrastructure capable of meeting the evolving needs of Army personnel and their families.
