Armed bandits have killed a soldier, a hunter and a pregnant woman during an attack on Sarkin Yamma village near the Jeb-Jeb area of Karim-Lamido Local Government Area, Taraba State.

The attackers also shot and injured another soldier and abducted several residents during Tuesday night’s assault.

According to Daily Trust, the attack occurred 11 days after gunmen invaded Binnari town, where more than 60 people, including women and children, were reportedly killed.

The attackers also raided Ruwan Zafi village, near Sarkin Yamma, and abducted 15 people, including women and children.

A community leader, Tanko Bobbo Andami, confirmed the latest incident during a telephone conversation with Daily Trust.

Andami said the attackers killed the soldier, hunter and pregnant woman while injuring another soldier.

He disclosed that soldiers and local hunters engaged the gunmen in a gun battle, rescuing five abducted residents before the attackers escaped into the forest with other victims.

According to him, about 15 people remained in captivity following the attacks.

Andami said the latest incident had further increased fear among residents of Karim-Lamido, who had repeatedly appealed for stronger security measures.

“Before the attacks in Binnari town and the latest incident, we had called on the government to secure Karim-Lamido before bandits took over the area. This is where we are now,” he said.

He appealed to the Taraba State and Federal Governments to deploy adequate security personnel to the affected communities.

“We still appeal to the Taraba State Government and the Federal Government to pay special attention to the area and provide adequate security to secure Karim-Lamido Local Government,” Andami added.

Police Yet To Comment On Fresh Attack

The Police Public Relations Officer of the Taraba State Command, ASP Victor Mshelizah, did not answer calls from the newspaper seeking comments on the incident.

Karim-Lamido has experienced repeated communal violence and attacks by armed groups, resulting in deaths and destruction of property.

Its location near the boundaries of four states, alongside difficult terrain and poor accessibility, has created security challenges for communities in the area.

Fresh Attack Follows Binnari Massacre

The latest violence comes after an attack on Binnari town on October 23, 2026, in which about 60 people were reportedly killed.

The attackers reportedly opened fire on residents who had gathered at the market to buy and sell goods shortly after Friday prayers.

Although the Taraba State Government has designated Karim-Lamido as an area of particular security concern, residents say the decision must translate into stronger security deployment to prevent further attacks.

The community has renewed its appeal for urgent intervention to protect residents and secure the affected villages.
