Breaking : Gunmen kidnap ex-power minister Adelabu ’s sister, children in Ibadan

Unknown gunmen have kidnapped Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul, the younger sister of Chief Adebayo Adelabu, alongside her twin sons, Peter and Paul, in Ibadan, Oyo state.

Mrs John-Paul, 43, is the youngest of the five children of Olufunmilayo Aduke Adegoke Adelabu. The immediate past minister of power is her brother.

According to a statement issued by the family, the victims were abducted at about 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, while Mrs. John-Paul was taking her children to school. The armed assailants reportedly intercepted them and whisked them away to an unknown destination.

Who is Mrs. Olaide John-Paul?

Mrs. John-Paul, 43, is the youngest of the five children of Mrs. Olufunmilayo Aduke Adegoke Adelabu. Until her voluntary retirement last year, she had served in both the Central Bank of Nigeria and First Bank Pension Custodian.

Following her retirement, she relocated to Ibadan with her children while making arrangements to join her husband, Mr. John Paul, who resides in the United States of America.

Security agencies launch investigation

The family disclosed that all relevant security and law enforcement agencies were immediately notified following the incident.

According to the statement, security operatives have commenced investigations and are currently working to secure the safe release of the victims while pursuing those responsible for the abduction.

Family appeals for calm

Chief Adebayo Adelabu and members of the family expressed deep concern over the incident but reaffirmed their confidence in the ability of security agencies to rescue the victims safely.

The family appealed to members of the public to remain calm, avoid speculation, and refrain from circulating unverified information that could jeopardize ongoing rescue efforts.

Call for public support

The family further urged anyone with useful information that could assist investigators to promptly report such information through the appropriate security channels.

They assured the public of their full cooperation with security authorities and pledged to provide updates as developments unfold.

Persistent insecurity within Oyo state

Insecurity situation has continued to permeate parts of Oyo state in recent times with many either kidnapped or killed.

Some days ago, many school children and teachers were abducted around Ogbomoso axis of the state, an incident that has raised uneasy calm with Nigerians and international community calling for governments to intensify efforts in ensuring their immediate release.

Already, teachers under the aegis of Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) have declared strike in Oyo state with others launching protest in other states in demand for their release.

Few days ago, both the state and federal government delegation visited the community where the trending kidnap incident happened and commiserated with the victims’ families and relations.

There, the governments assured that efforts are being made to ensure the release of the students and teachers.
