The Canadian government has announced fresh relocation opportunities for skilled Nigerians and other foreign nationals, with medical doctors, teachers, tradespersons and science, technology, engineering and mathematics professionals among those being sought to fill critical labour shortages.
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada announced the development on Thursday, saying the country would continue to attract skilled workers through its Express Entry category-based selection system.
In a statement, the immigration agency said, “Canada is seeking skilled professionals through these Express Entry categories.”
According to the agency, priority occupations include healthcare and social services professionals, educators, tradespersons and professionals in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
Medical doctors, researchers, transport professionals and senior managers with Canadian work experience were also listed among those eligible for consideration.
The agency further noted that applicants with French-language proficiency would have an added advantage under some of the immigration categories.
Canada has increasingly relied on skilled immigration to address labour shortages across key sectors, including healthcare, education, transportation and technology, while supporting economic growth.
The latest announcement is expected to attract interest from qualified Nigerian professionals seeking employment and permanent residency opportunities in Canada through the Express Entry programme.
The Express Entry system ranks eligible candidates based on factors such as age, education, work experience and language proficiency before issuing invitations to apply for permanent residence.
