According to Aiguobarueghian, the impeachment petition, dated March 5, was signed by 21 out of the 24 members against the deputy governor, surpassing the two-thirds majority required by the constitution.

The grounds for the petition are perjury and revealing of government secrets.

Speaker Blessing Agbebaku acknowledged the petition and directed the Clerk of the House, Yahaya Omogbai, to serve Shaibu the impeachment notice. Shaibu has seven days to respond to the notice.

This move comes amidst the ongoing rift between Governor Godwin Obaseki and his Deputy, which escalated last year when Shaibu announced his intention to run for the office of the governor.
