A 27-year-old man from the Niger Republic, Aliyu Salisu, has been rescued alive after a three-storey building collapsed in the Lifecamp area of Abuja on Saturday, August 2, 2025.
The collapse occurred around 6:15 p.m., prompting a swift response from emergency services. While several occupants escaped unhurt, Salisu was trapped under the rubble for nearly 10 hours.
Rescue teams, led by the Lifecamp Divisional Police Officer, responded immediately in coordination with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the FCT Administration Development Control Department, and Zeberced Construction Company. The area was secured, and a full-scale rescue operation was carried out overnight.
At approximately 4:00 a.m. on Sunday, Salisu was pulled from the debris and transported to Cedar Crest Hospital in Gudu. According to medical staff, he is receiving treatment and is in stable condition.
FCT Police spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, confirmed the rescue and praised the coordinated efforts of all involved agencies. She also urged residents to stay alert and report emergencies or suspicious activities to law enforcement.
FCT Commissioner of Police, Ajao Adewale, who visited the scene, commended the professionalism displayed by the rescue teams. He reiterated the importance of community vigilance in preventing and responding to similar incidents.
Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the structural failure that led to the collapse.
