Four people have been killed in fresh attacks on communities in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State, according to the Mwaghavul Development Association.
The attacks occurred in Kikyau, Larkas, Ntul and Kinat within three days, while another man sustained serious injuries.
The association disclosed the incidents in a statement signed by its Director of Public Affairs, Tubwot Joël, on behalf of President Kyesmang Jonathan Yusuf.
Kinat Attack
The latest attack occurred in Kinat on the night of September 12, according to the association.
It identified the victim as 29-year-old Katbam Titus, who was reportedly killed during the attack.
The incident occurred only hours after the General Officer Commanding 3 Division, Major General W.M. Dangana, visited Mangu for a security engagement with Mwaghavul and Fulani leaders.
The association said the Army commander had assured both communities that security forces would act against anyone responsible for further attacks.
Three Earlier Incidents
The association linked the Kinat attack to three other incidents recorded in the preceding days.
In Kikyau, 55-year-old Geoffrey Gumut was reportedly killed on September 11.
The association alleged that Gumut was beheaded during the attack. It also said his head had not been recovered when the statement was issued.
In Larkas, 45-year-old Danjuma Kyesle was reportedly attacked and seriously injured. He remained under medical care, according to the group.
The association also raised concerns because security personnel were reportedly present in the community when the Larkas incident occurred.
In Ntul, the group said Pius Dachen, 50, and Zadok Irmiya, 25, were also killed.
The association blamed armed attackers for the incidents, but the allegations had not been independently established at the time of reporting.
Calls for Investigation
The Mwaghavul Development Association called for thorough and transparent investigations into all four incidents.
It urged security agencies to identify and prosecute those responsible under the law.
The group also called for an investigation into allegations of negligence or failure of duty where security personnel were reportedly present during an attack.
It said the latest violence threatened ongoing efforts to improve relations between communities in Mangu.
Recent reports indicate that security authorities have been engaging community and Fulani leaders as part of efforts to prevent reprisals and further violence in Plateau.
What Happens Next
The focus will now shift to the security response and investigations into the four attacks.
Authorities will also face pressure to protect vulnerable communities and prevent further violence.
The Mwaghavul group said the latest incidents should provide an immediate test of the security assurances given during the recent Mangu engagement.
