INEC Reports Over 3.5 Million Online Pre-Registrations, 288,000 Completed Voter Registrations Nationwide

Abuja, September 8, 2025 – The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released its latest update on the ongoing nationwide voter registration, recording impressive figures from both the online and physical registration processes.

According to the Commission, as of Sunday, 7th September 2025, a total of 3,544,850 Nigerians have successfully completed the online pre-registration since the launch of the exercise on August 18, 2025.

Breakdown of Online Pre-Registration (Week Three):

Gender: 1,709,933 males (48.24%), 1,834,917 females (51.76%)

Age: 2,291,809 registrants (64.65%) are between 18–34 years old

Occupation: 882,441 (24.89%) are students


In addition, INEC confirmed that it will now begin publishing combined figures for both online and physical (in-person) registration.

Completed Registrations (as of September 4, 2025):
Since the commencement of the in-person registration on August 25, 2025, a total of 288,614 registrations have been completed nationwide. Out of this number:

Gender: 132,634 males (45.96%), 155,980 females (54.04%)

Age: 215,414 (74.64%) are between 18–34 years old

Occupation: 114,150 (39.55%) are students

The Commission stated that a detailed breakdown of the figures by state, gender, age, occupation, and disability has been uploaded to its official website and platforms for public access.

INEC’s National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun (mni), expressed appreciation for the positive civic response and the role of organizations mobilizing citizens for participation.

However, he strongly cautioned against underage registration:

“We reiterate that voter registration is strictly open to Nigerian citizens aged 18 years and above. It is illegal for anyone to encourage underage registration or register persons below 18 in anticipation of their eligibility by the 2027 general elections.”

 

INEC reaffirmed its commitment to conducting a transparent, inclusive, and credible voter registration process as part of its preparations for the next electoral cycle.
