The Lagos State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to reducing the housing deficit with an ambitious target of delivering more than 14,000 residential units by the end of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s tenure.

This was disclosed by the Commissioner for Housing, Moruf Akinderu-Fatai, during a ministerial briefing commemorating the governor’s second term in office. He highlighted that a significant portion of the target has already been met through a blend of direct government funding and public-private partnerships.

“As of now, 9,970 housing units have been completed under various schemes since 2019,” Akinderu-Fatai stated. “These include the recently commissioned 270-unit Egan-Igando Mixed Housing Estate (Cluster 1), marking the 21st estate delivered across the state’s five administrative zones.”

The commissioner detailed that the housing ministry is currently overseeing five major projects, all at varying stages of development. Among them are the ongoing Clusters II and III of the Egan-Igando estate, which will bring 576 more units to the Igando-Ikotun LCDA by early 2026. Other key projects include:

LagosHOMS Sangotedo Phase II (Eti-Osa East): 528 units, expected completion in Q3 2025

Epe Housing Scheme (Itamarun): 112 units, due by Q4 2025

LagosHOMS Ajara (Badagry): 420 units, on track for Q2 2025

LagosHOMS Ibeshe Phase II (Igbogbo-Baiyeku): 192 units, set for Q3 2025

Providing updates as of March 2025, the commissioner reported the Epe project was 82% complete, with other sites progressing between 50% and 86% completion.

In addition to the efforts from the housing ministry, the Lagos State Development and Property Corporation (LSDPC) has also contributed by completing 12 projects totaling 710 housing units over the past six years. The agency is currently managing 25 developments projected to yield another 2,415 units.

With 4,052 units under active construction and 2,224 more at the planning stage, officials say the state is on course to meet its goal of delivering a total of 14,022 homes to Lagos residents by 2026.

The Sanwo-Olu administration continues to emphasize housing as a core priority, aiming to provide accessible and affordable shelter in response to the city’s growing population and urban expansion.
