The Lagos State Government has intensified its crackdown on environmental violations with the closure of a popular nightclub and the arrest of several individuals for sanitation offences.
On Monday, enforcement officials from the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC) and the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) sealed off Light House Club, located along Admiralty Way in Lekki, over repeated breaches of noise pollution regulations.
The development was confirmed by the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, via his official social media handle, where he cited the club’s continued disregard for environmental standards despite multiple warnings.
“The club has been shut down for persistent noise pollution. The management ignored repeated directives to comply with sound level regulations,” Wahab stated.
“The closure will remain until they implement soundproofing measures and demonstrate full compliance with LASEPA’s noise control guidelines.”
The commissioner emphasized that protecting the rights of Lagos residents to a peaceful environment would always take precedence over commercial interests.
“Entertainment businesses must understand that our environmental laws are not negotiable. The comfort and wellbeing of the public come first,” he said.
In a separate enforcement effort, Wahab also disclosed the arrest of five individuals in Ikorodu for engaging in open urination, an offence under the state’s sanitation regulations.
The arrests underscore the state government’s broader push to uphold cleanliness and environmental discipline in public spaces. Officials have warned that ongoing surveillance and joint enforcement efforts will continue across the state, targeting individuals and businesses that flout environmental laws.
The state has reiterated its commitment to ensuring a cleaner, healthier, and more livable Lagos through firm regulatory action and inter-agency collaboration.
