Landmark Africa has officially commenced renovation of the iconic Nike Lake Resort, following its ₦10 billion joint venture with the Enugu State Government aimed at transforming the facility into a world-class tourism and hospitality destination.

The redevelopment project, which is already in its first phase, was confirmed via a video update posted Tuesday on the official X account of Landmark Nike Lake Resort Enugu. The footage showcased ongoing works and design improvements, offering a glimpse into the transformation process.

According to the project team, including the interior design lead and the site manager featured in the video, Phase A is 50% complete, with visible progress on room reconfiguration, modern fittings, and expansion of previously constrained areas.

“We’ve taken out old beds, outdated TVs, and compact layouts to create a cleaner, more contemporary aesthetic,” one designer said. “In the bathrooms, we demolished the former tight walls and are now installing full-height glass features. Gypsum ceilings are done, and painting begins soon.”

The renovation is the first visible outcome of the landmark public-private partnership agreement signed in January 2025. Under the deal, the Enugu State Government offered the 150-hectare lakeside property as an equity contribution, while Landmark Africa secured a 35-year lease to redesign, operate, and manage the resort.

The company plans to inject ₦10 billion in the initial phase to build and upgrade the resort’s core infrastructure, including luxury hotel rooms, lakeside villas, beach lounges, restaurants, a kids’ park, a golf course, and other leisure attractions.

Landmark Africa’s founder, Paul Onwuanibe, described the project as a bold step toward repositioning Enugu as a premier tourism destination in Nigeria and West Africa. He said the development aims to blend modern hospitality standards with the region’s cultural and natural assets.

The Nike Lake Resort, which opened in the 1980s, has long been a symbol of Enugu’s tourism heritage but had fallen into disrepair in recent years.

With construction underway and the design team already implementing significant changes, stakeholders say the project reflects a renewed vision to restore the resort’s former prestige while unlocking new economic and tourism opportunities for the state.
