In a major push to advance Africa’s development through strategic investment, the Federal Government of Nigeria has officially launched the ASIF Investment Platform. The initiative was unveiled during the 4th Annual Meeting of the Africa Sovereign Investors Forum (ASIF) in Abuja.
The new platform is designed to mobilize both domestic and international capital for large-scale projects spanning infrastructure, renewable energy, healthcare, and manufacturing across the continent. It aims to reduce risks associated with high-impact ventures and foster a favorable climate for blended finance and public-private partnerships.
Speaking at the event, Vice President Kashim Shettima, who represented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, reaffirmed Nigeria’s leadership role in shaping Africa’s economic future. He stressed the importance of regional cooperation and collective action in achieving sustainable development.
“This platform is not just about Nigeria; it’s about uniting Africa’s resources and ambition. Our continent’s transformation depends on bold reforms, innovative financing, and shared responsibility,” the Vice President said.
Managing Director and CEO of the Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA), Aminu Umar-Sadiq, emphasized the unique opportunity African sovereign wealth funds have to accelerate growth.
“When we combine our investment capabilities, sovereign funds across Africa can serve as engines of economic resilience and long-term prosperity,” he noted.
Also speaking at the launch, Wale Edun, Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, highlighted a range of Nigeria’s homegrown financing tools that demonstrate investor readiness. These include the NSIA-supported Infrastructure Debt Fund, the Green Guarantee Company, and the recent issuance of a US dollar-denominated domestic bond.
Edun called for a shift in Africa’s development narrative—from untapped potential to visible performance.
“Africa must lead its own industrialization. With the right frameworks, we can turn aspiration into action,” he said.
The ASIF Investment Platform is expected to serve as a catalyst for unlocking billions in investments while offering African nations a shared roadmap toward economic diversification, sustainable infrastructure, and regional integration.
