The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in Kano State has officially expelled Abdulmumin Jibrin Kofa, the House of Representatives member for Kiru/Bebeji. The decision was based on allegations of “anti-party activities” and his failure to pay mandatory party dues.
According to Kano NNPP Chairman, Hashim Sulaiman Dungurawa, Jibrin’s repeated public criticisms of the party and its leadership, especially during media appearances shortly after hinting at a possible defection, sealed his expulsion. Although a reconciliation committee was initially set up following his interview on Channels Television, subsequent remarks convinced party leaders that dialogue was no longer an option.
Dungurawa further stated that Jibrin’s political victory was more a result of the NNPP platform and the Kwankwasiyya movement than his personal strength. He explained: “If he was truly strong politically, he would have won his election under the APC, but he failed. It was when he joined NNPP through Kwankwasiyya that he became a House of Reps member. Now he is deceiving himself thinking he is strong.”
The chairman also disclosed that legal action may be taken to recover unpaid dues, stressing that party contributions are a constitutional obligation for members.
On speculation that Jibrin might return to the APC, Dungurawa dismissed concerns, noting that politics thrives on collective strength. He emphasized that Kwankwasiyya members remain loyal to their leader, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
