A fatal explosion occurred near Mogadishu Barracks in Abuja on Monday, leaving one person dead and another injured under circumstances still being investigated by security agencies.

According to reports from the scene, the incident involved a suspected explosive device. Witnesses claimed the blast may have been caused by an object carried by the deceased, potentially indicating a failed attempt to detonate an improvised explosive device (IED).

One eyewitness, identified as a military officer who preferred to remain anonymous, told reporters that the deceased individual was likely carrying a container suspected to hold an explosive, which detonated and killed him instantly.

However, conflicting accounts have emerged. Military personnel at the scene stated that the explosion might have been triggered by a mobile phone device rather than an IED, suggesting that investigations were still ongoing to determine the precise cause.

Security agencies, including operatives from the military, Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Police Force, and officials of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), swiftly cordoned off the area and began gathering evidence.

As of the time of filing this report, emergency and security personnel remain at the scene, working to assess the nature of the explosion and ensure public safety.

Authorities are expected to release an official statement once the investigation is complete.
