Residents of Orisunmibare/Ita Faaji in Ido Local Government Area of Oyo State have appealed to Governor Seyi Makinde to urgently intervene in fixing the deteriorated road linking their community, which has become nearly impassable, especially during the rainy season.
The appeal was made on Friday during a press briefing in Ibadan, where community leaders lamented the hardship residents face due to the poor state of the road, which connects through the Wire and Cable end of Apata-Abeokuta Road.
According to Ganiyu Are, Chairman of Otu Alaafia Estate Landlords’ Association, the road has never been tarred and has only received occasional grading, which stopped about five years ago. He noted that recent heavy rains have worsened the situation by washing away layers of sand, leaving the road in a deplorable state.
“We’ve endured years of neglect and suffering. We’re appealing once again to Governor Makinde to fulfil his promise and commence construction,” Are said, referring to reports that the road has been listed in the state’s 2025 budget.
Echoing the plea, Yomi Olaniyi, Chairman of Gbogun Community Landlords’ Association, reminded the governor of his reputation for delivering on promises. “You have done so much for other parts of the state. We trust you can bring relief to our community as well,” he stated.
Olusola Awe, who leads the Orisunmibare Central Community Association representing 22 communities, also praised the administration’s efforts so far and urged immediate action. He said road engineers had previously visited the area for inspection and urged the government to follow through with actual construction.
“Governor Makinde, your legacy will shine even brighter if you can bring development to a community that has never experienced such,” Awe added.
Residents say a timely intervention would not only ease daily hardship but also prevent further erosion and isolation of the area as the rainy season intensifies.
