The Oyo State Government has started paying over ₦100 million to more than 40 property owners. These individuals were affected by the ongoing Ibadan Circular Road Corridor development.
This new payment brings total compensation to more than ₦300 million. The sum covers those impacted by the Circular Road works, the Ajia overhead bridge, and construction along the Iseyin/Ogbomoso Road.
The Commissioner for Lands and Urban Development, Mr. Williams Akin-Funmilayo, announced the payment at the Ministry of Lands, Secretariat, Ibadan. He said Governor Seyi Makinde directed the prompt payment to ease the burden on affected residents.
Since the start of the exercise, the first ₦200 million was paid to property owners. A further ₦100 million followed for those affected by bridge construction. This current ₦100 million benefits over 40 more owners along the Circular Road.
Akin-Funmilayo explained that ancient villages along the project route would be preserved. They will be integrated into the plan to avoid unnecessary displacement. He also clarified that the corridor widths were set by previous administrations.
The corridor will host modern facilities such as hospitals and recreation centres. These developments aim to attract local and foreign investors to Oyo State.
He noted that New Town and City Development manages the Circular Road project. The Ministry of Lands handles property enumeration and compensation payments.
Beneficiaries praised the government for its empathy and swift action. Adeyemi Peter, one property owner, thanked the administration and urged priority payments for elderly recipients.
More compensation rounds are planned in the coming weeks. The government hopes the Ibadan Circular Road will strengthen the state’s transport system and boost economic growth.
