The Nigeria Police Force has stated that the N100 million allegedly transferred to Victor Egbetokun, son of former Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, was done in error and subsequently reversed.

The Force Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, disclosed this during an appearance on Politics Today on Channels Television.

Allegations Over Security Vote Funds

Victor Egbetokun had faced allegations of financial impropriety after reports claimed he received N100 million from the Anambra State Government’s security vote account at a time of heightened security challenges in the South-East.

Sources familiar with the transactions alleged that the funds were transferred in September 2025 from the Anambra State Security Vote (VI) account domiciled with Sterling Bank into a personal account at Zenith Bank bearing his name.

The development raised concerns given that security vote funds are typically reserved for intelligence operations, logistics, and emergency security responses.

Police Explanation

Responding to the allegations, Hundeyin said the transfer was an error and was immediately reversed once detected.

According to him, Victor Egbetokun contacted his accounts officer upon noticing the unexpected deposit and initiated the reversal process.

“You could remember when he said N100m was paid into the account of the son of the IGP. I called the son of the IGP immediately to know what was going on, and he explained. He said he saw N100m in his account, and I told my accounts officer to reverse the money immediately, which he did,” Hundeyin said.

Change In Police Leadership

The controversy comes amid leadership changes in the Police Force. Kayode Egbetokun was removed as Inspector-General of Police and succeeded by Tunji Disu, who previously served as Assistant Inspector General of Police overseeing the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex in Alagbon, Lagos.

The Police have maintained that the N100 million transfer was a clerical error and that the funds were returned to the Anambra State Government account.
