From October 1, 2025, passengers will no longer be permitted to use power banks during flights, under a new safety measure introduced across the aviation sector. The restriction, confirmed on Tuesday, is aimed at reducing risks linked to lithium battery malfunctions, which have been a growing concern worldwide.

Emirates, one of the world’s largest international airlines, said the ban now applies to its entire fleet following a detailed safety review. Although all its aircraft are fitted with in-seat charging outlets, the carrier urged travellers to fully charge their devices before boarding, especially for long-haul trips.

The airline noted that the rise in portable charger use has coincided with an increase in lithium battery incidents, making stricter precautions necessary to protect both passengers and crew.
