Residents of Lokogoma District are expressing mounting concerns over the persisting issues of dilapidated roads, inadequate drainage systems, and erratic power supply plaguing their community.
In a bid to address these pressing challenges, some residents have turned to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, seeking intervention.
Representatives from the Lokogoma District Concern, George Agbakahi and Ibrahim Ndaaba, voiced their grievances in a statement released yesterday. They highlighted the recurring fatalities witnessed during the rainy season due to the absence of efficient drainage systems in the area. Despite a supposed review of the district’s infrastructure design by the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) in 2018, no tangible progress has been made.
Of particular concern is the imminent commissioning of a world-class hospital in the district, a collaborative effort between the Federal Government, Afreximbank, and the University of Oxford. Residents fear that without adequate supporting infrastructure, such as proper roads and drainage, the potential benefits of this medical facility could be severely compromised.
The statement underscored the lack of government presence in the district at all levels, emphasizing the urgent need for action to address these critical issues. Previous palliative measures undertaken by the FCDA, including the construction of a 200-meter road and drainage channel, have fallen short of providing lasting solutions.

Residents emphasized the socio-economic importance of addressing these infrastructure deficiencies, noting the potential for Lokogoma District to become a revenue-generating hub with adequate government support. Their prayers include the development of grade A internal roads, improved drainage systems, street lighting, schools, markets, and healthcare facilities, as outlined in the district’s infrastructure master plan.
In their appeal to Minister Nyesom Wike, residents urged swift and decisive action to alleviate their district’s plight, expressing hope that their concerns would be given due consideration and addressed promptly.
