In a move aimed at expanding access to quality housing, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has commissioned two major residential estates in Surulere as part of his administration’s commitment to urban renewal and inclusive development.
The newly inaugurated estates—Olaleye New Town Estate in Iponri and Megamound Greater Lagos Apartments in Obele-Oniwala—were launched on Monday during separate ceremonies attended by government officials, private partners, and members of the community.
Governor Sanwo-Olu described the projects as a reflection of his administration’s broader vision to build a more livable and inclusive Lagos.
“Homeownership is about more than just shelter; it’s about dignity, security, and hope for the future,” the governor said. “That’s why providing decent and affordable housing remains one of our top priorities.”
The Megamound Greater Lagos Apartments, developed through the Lagos Building Investment Company (LBIC), span 3.7 hectares and feature 21 blocks containing a total of 378 apartments. The units range from one-bedroom to three-bedroom options, designed to accommodate a diverse mix of residents.
The Olaleye New Town Estate was delivered through a public-private partnership between LBIC and Exquisite Homes Ltd. Located on over 7,000 square metres of land, the estate comprises 64 four-bedroom maisonettes, each equipped with modern facilities and built with an emphasis on comfort, safety, and aesthetics.
“These projects not only provide housing but also stimulate the economy and empower communities,” Sanwo-Olu said. “From local artisans to engineers, these developments have created jobs and supported businesses.”
He emphasized that both estates incorporate green spaces and sustainable building practices, in line with Lagos State’s commitment to future-proof infrastructure.
The governor expressed gratitude to the professionals who contributed to the success of the projects and reiterated his government’s focus on the THEMES Plus agenda—an extension of his policy roadmap that highlights housing, environment, and inclusive growth.
Sanwo-Olu also urged new homeowners to take ownership of their environment and foster a strong sense of community.
“These are not just buildings; they are homes where families will grow, where dreams will flourish. I encourage residents to work together to maintain these estates and uphold the values of community living.”
The inauguration of the two estates marks another milestone in Lagos State’s long-term plan to create resilient and accessible housing for its growing population.
