Panic erupted in Umuahia, the Abia State capital, on Saturday after part of the First Bank building on Library Avenue caved in.
The incident occurred in the afternoon and caused commotion in the busy commercial district, which hosts several banks, offices, and shops. Emergency personnel and security agencies quickly moved to the scene to secure the area and assess the situation.
Although the extent of damage and possible casualties has not yet been confirmed, eyewitnesses said the collapse happened suddenly during non-working hours, prompting traders and pedestrians nearby to scamper for safety.
As of press time, the bank’s management had not released an official statement regarding the incident.
