The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service has confirmed that one person has died while 21 others have been rescued following the collapse of a two-storey building at 54 Cole Street, near Cemetery Bus Stop, in the Oyingbo area of Lagos.
In a situation update released Monday morning, the Director of the Service, Margaret Adeseye, said the structure had earlier been marked “distressed” before it caved in on its occupants in the early hours of the day.
Adeseye disclosed that the agency received a distress call shortly after the collapse and immediately dispatched the Sari Iganmu Fire Station to the scene for rescue operations.
“So far, 21 victims have been rescued with varying degrees of injury and one body recovered,” she said. “Those injured have been taken to the Federal Medical Centre, Ebute Meta, and the General Hospital, Odan, Lagos Island.”
Rescue efforts are ongoing as emergency responders continue to search for possible survivors trapped under the rubble.
