The Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Arc. Ahmed Dangiwa, has stated that the Ministry is integrating sustainable planning principles into the development of new urban areas, thereby reducing the carbon footprint and enhancing climate resilience.
The Minister made this known at the Katsina State Climate Action and Green Summit, organised by the Katsina State Government recently in Abuja, with the theme: Turning Climate Challenges into Development Opportunities in Katsina State.
He added that urban and sustainable solutions will help towns and cities adapt to and provide long-term responses to extreme weather events and environmental degradation.
Minister Dangiwa also noted that the Ministry is actively advancing policies and implementation frameworks to support climate resilience. He revealed that a National Policy on Rural Settlement and Planning Development has been developed to promote balanced and inclusive development across Nigeria.
Furthermore, he said the Ministry is finalising the development of the National Physical Planning Standards to guide urban and regional planning, with climate responsiveness at its core.
