Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barrister Nyesom Wike, has reiterated that residents and communities impacted by ongoing road and infrastructure developments across the capital have received proper and fair compensation in line with established procedures.
Speaking during an inspection tour of recently completed and ongoing road projects in Abuja, the Minister emphasized that the administration remains committed to upholding fairness and transparency in all its dealings with citizens affected by urban expansion initiatives.
Wike noted that compensations were not only paid but that affected individuals were consulted throughout the process, ensuring that no one was displaced without prior notice or due benefits.
“We ensured that all persons affected by these projects were engaged and adequately settled before construction began. We followed all laid-down processes,” the Minister stated.
His comments come amid the commissioning of key infrastructure projects in the FCT, including major arterial roads linking strategic districts like Maitama, Jahi, Katampe, and Mabushi. These projects form part of broader efforts to decongest traffic and boost connectivity under the current administration’s development agenda.
Wike also praised the cooperation of local leaders and community members, who he said played a vital role in enabling smooth project execution without disputes or delays.
Observers view the Minister’s remarks as part of efforts to build public trust and reinforce accountability in the federal capital’s urban development strategies. As Abuja continues to grow, managing resettlement and compensation remains a key focus to ensure inclusive progress.
The assurance comes as the FCT Administration ramps up its Renewed Hope infrastructure programme, aiming to make the capital more accessible, efficient, and reflective of modern city planning standards.
