In a move aimed at expanding access to sustainable energy, homes and businesses across Ibeju-Lekki in Lagos State are set to benefit from a new solar electrification programme spearheaded by the Presidential Community Engagement Office (South-West).
The project, known as Light-Up Ibeju-Lekki, was launched under the leadership of Moremi Ojudu, Senior Special Assistant to the President, and is supported by the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) in collaboration with the Ibeju-Lekki Local Government.
Designed to address local energy challenges, the initiative forms part of the broader Renewed Hope Agenda of the federal government. It aims to provide clean and consistent electricity to underserved communities while supporting micro and small businesses through reduced power costs and improved operational reliability.
Speaking at the official launch, Ojudu emphasized the federal government’s focus on grassroots empowerment:
“This is about more than just infrastructure—it’s about empowering communities with solutions that are both practical and homegrown,” he said.
The Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki LGA, Engr. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, expressed appreciation for the programme, describing it as a timely intervention that aligns with the council’s ongoing development goals.
In his remarks, Engr. Adesoji Oyedeji, who represented NASENI, highlighted the agency’s efforts to increase energy accessibility across Nigeria using locally driven innovations. He also noted that the initiative included a training component, where selected youths from the community were taught how to install solar systems—equipping them with skills to support the rollout and gain employment.
With installations set to begin shortly, Light-Up Ibeju-Lekki marks a strategic step toward strengthening local economies and improving quality of life, especially in areas where energy access has long been limited.
