The Africa International Housing Show (AIHS) has announced that the Governor of Kebbi State, Dr. Nasir Idris, will be honoured with the Infrastructure-Friendly Governor of the Year Award at the 19th edition of the event, scheduled to hold from July 27 to August 1, 2025, at the Transcorp Hilton, Abuja.

The announcement was made by Festus Adebayo, Convener of AIHS, who stated that the award is to celebrate and inspire excellence among state governors in the areas of housing, infrastructure, and urban development.

According to him, AIHS recognises that leadership plays a pivotal role in shaping livable, inclusive, and economically vibrant communities, and the award is meant to spur more governors to prioritize infrastructure as a pathway to long-term growth.

AIHS, the owners of Housing TV Africa (Channel 149 on StarTimes) and Housing Development Programme on AIT, is Africa’s most influential platform for housing and construction innovation. It attracts participation from across 21 countries and has played host to several high-level personalities, including Vice Presidents, Governors, Ministers, Lawmakers, and Ambassadors.

The event serves as a dynamic and global forum for public-private dialogue, investment promotion, and showcasing successful models in the housing and infrastructure ecosystem.

Governor Idris’s recognition follows his administration’s visible transformation of urban and rural infrastructure in Kebbi State. In the capital, Birnin Kebbi, the government launched a city beautification and road rehabilitation programme that includes the reconstruction of over 15 kilometers of city roads, complete with drainage systems and solar-powered street lighting. A new dual carriageway from Bulasa to the city’s welcome gate, complemented by landscaped roundabouts and aesthetic upgrades, has reshaped the city’s image and ease of movement.

In secondary towns like Argungu, Yauri, and Ngaski, key infrastructure projects are underway, including a 6.4-kilometer dual carriageway in Argungu, township road rehabilitation in Yauri, and upgrades to critical roads across the state’s four senatorial districts.

The administration has also initiated the construction and rehabilitation of over 300 kilometers of rural roads, with projects actively progressing in local government areas such as Gwandu, Shanga, and Augie.

Governor Idris’s administration also completed a modern secretariat complex in Gwandangwaji, consolidating government ministries into a centralized administrative facility. In addition, the Birnin Kebbi Central Motor Park has been revamped into a fully equipped transportation hub featuring shops, a guesthouse, and solar lighting for enhanced security and service delivery. Across the state, more than 50 bridges have been constructed or rehabilitated, along with drainage systems, culverts, and retaining walls to improve connectivity and flood control.

AIHS praised the Kebbi State Government’s emphasis on transparency, due process, and accountability in its capital project delivery. In 2024 alone, the administration committed ₦79 billion to infrastructure investments aimed at boosting economic activity, improving urban planning, and enhancing quality of life for residents.

The award will be presented to Governor Idris during the high-level opening ceremony of AIHS on Tuesday, 29th of July, 2025, alongside other distinguished honourees.

According to the organisers, his recognition serves as a model for how leadership and vision can reshape the landscape of Nigerian cities and rural communities through inclusive and sustainable development.
