The Minister of Works, David Umahi, has issued a stern warning to contractors handling federal road projects in Edo State, insisting that those failing to meet deadlines risk immediate revocation of their contracts.
Umahi gave the warning during an inspection tour of key federal projects in the state alongside Governor Monday Okpebholo. The tour covered major routes, including the Ekpoma section of the Benin–Ekpoma–Auchi Expressway; a strategic link between Edo and the northern corridor.
While commending some contractors for satisfactory progress, the Minister expressed disappointment at others who, he said, have shown poor performance. “The era of abandoned or substandard projects is over. Contractors must deliver quality work within the stipulated time,” Umahi stated.
Governor Okpebholo, who has initiated intervention works on several federal roads in Edo, praised President Bola Tinubu for his continued support for infrastructure renewal. In response, Umahi lauded the governor’s proactive efforts and officially handed over the Ewu–Agbor carriageway to the state government for execution.
The inspection also covered the ongoing Benin–Asaba Expressway project and concluded at the Ramat Park flyover in Benin City, a flagship infrastructure project aimed at easing traffic congestion in the metropolis.
