Students and staff of St. Mary’s Catholic School in Papiri community, Agwara Local Government Area of Niger State, were abducted on Friday after armed terrorists stormed the school in the early hours of the day.

Local sources confirmed the attack, noting that the exact number of kidnapped victims was still unclear as the school authorities were compiling a headcount.

A resident, who spoke to journalists, said the Catholic Church would issue an official statement after completing internal checks.

“Yes, the incident happened, but I cannot give details for now. The church will release an official statement later today,” the source explained.

Attempts to reach the Niger State Police Command were unsuccessful as the command’s spokesperson, SP Wasiu Abiodun, did not respond to calls.

The latest abduction comes just days after terrorists attacked a government school in Kebbi State, where at least 25 students were taken.

The recurring attacks on educational institutions in northern Nigeria have continued to raise concerns about school safety, community security, and the rising sophistication of armed groups operating across the region.
