The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has projected predominantly sunny and stable weather conditions across Nigeria on Boxing Day, December 26, 2025, offering favourable conditions for travel, outdoor events, and festive activities nationwide.

The forecast, released as part of NiMet’s daily weather outlook, indicates that atmospheric conditions across the country remain largely calm, with only isolated thunderstorms expected in some southern states.

According to the agency, residents in the Northern and Central regions should anticipate clear skies from morning through evening, with no significant weather disturbances forecast for the day. NiMet said the stable conditions are expected to support smooth road travel and outdoor celebrations across these zones.

In its advisory, the agency noted that the Southern region would experience slight weather variations, particularly in coastal and rainforest areas. Parts of Akwa Ibom State are expected to witness localized thunderstorms accompanied by light rainfall during the morning hours.

As the day progresses, NiMet warned that isolated thunderstorms may develop in parts of Ondo, Ogun, Lagos, Rivers, Delta, Cross River, Edo, and Bayelsa states, potentially bringing brief rainfall episodes.

While the expected storms are not projected to be severe, the agency cautioned that thunderstorms could be accompanied by gusty winds, lightning, and reduced visibility in affected areas.

NiMet advised motorists to exercise increased caution, especially on highways and flood-prone routes, noting that wet road surfaces may elevate the risk of accidents during rainfall periods. Residents planning outdoor Boxing Day activities in the southern states were also encouraged to remain weather-aware and make flexible arrangements.

For the aviation sector, the agency emphasised the need for up-to-date meteorological briefings, stressing that accurate weather information is critical for flight planning, passenger safety, and minimising weather-related disruptions during the busy festive travel period.

Despite the isolated weather concerns in the South, NiMet described the overall outlook as favourable, particularly in the Northern and Central regions where sunshine is expected to dominate throughout the day.

The agency concluded by urging Nigerians to stay informed through official weather updates and to prioritise safety while enjoying the Boxing Day celebrations.
