Katsina, COSMOS Sign N155bn MoU to Build 3,750 Housing Units

The Katsina State Government and COSMOS Residential City Nigeria Limited have signed a N155 billion Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to construct 3,750 housing units in Kankia and Charanchi Local Government Areas.

The MoU was signed at the Katsina Government House, with Governor Dikko Umaru Radda revealing that 2,500 units will be built in Kankia, while 1,250 units will be developed in Radda community of Charanchi. The project, valued at N155 billion, will adopt an innovative agro-residential model, combining modern housing with backyard fish farming and vegetable gardens.

Governor Radda said the project is designed to provide sustainable livelihoods, with beneficiaries expected to earn up to N200,000 monthly. A compulsory savings of N50,000–N70,000 will gradually offset investors’ costs, after which the houses and farms will become the beneficiaries’ personal property within three to five years.

“The state government has allocated land for the project and will identify unemployed youths and low-income households, including those without formal education but with practical farming and vocational skills, as beneficiaries,” Radda said. He added that the project site has been handed over to COSMOS, which is expected to mobilise fully within 10 days to commence work immediately.

The governor explained that each household will receive a fully completed and furnished house, training in modern farming techniques, digital farm monitoring, and access to international markets for their produce.

COSMOS Managing Director Murtala Sani Ibrahim said the initiative is in partnership with SuperEye USA Corporation, adding that local contractors, artisans, and suppliers will be given first consideration. He also revealed plans to expand the scheme to Katsina, Daura, and Funtua in a second phase.

Governor Radda emphasized that the programme aims to empower youths and small families, combining housing with income-generating agricultural opportunities to foster financial independence and community development.
