APC Challenges Gwagwalada Election, Demands Fresh Poll

The (APC) has challenged the outcome of the Gwagwalada Area Council chairmanship election, seeking a fresh poll over alleged irregularities.

The party’s candidate, , filed a petition before the election tribunal in , contesting the victory of of the (PDP).

Official results released by the (INEC) showed Kasim polled 22,165 votes, while Usman secured 17,788 votes.

Allegations of electoral irregularities

The petition alleges that the election did not comply with provisions of the Electoral Act 2026 and was marred by corrupt practices.

According to the APC, irregularities were recorded in over 100 polling units, including discrepancies between voter accreditation and final vote counts.

Claims of flawed voting process

Witnesses cited in the petition claimed delays in the commencement of voting and inconsistencies in announced results.

Some testimonies also pointed to differences between the number of accredited voters and total votes recorded in certain polling units.

APC seeks nullification, fresh election

The petitioners are asking the tribunal to:

  • Nullify the election results
  • Cancel results in affected polling units
  • Order a fresh election

In the alternative, they requested to be declared winners, claiming they secured the majority of lawful votes.

Tribunal to determine outcome

The case now rests before the tribunal, which will review evidence, witness testimonies, and compliance with electoral guidelines before delivering judgment.

The outcome could either uphold the declared result or lead to a rerun of the election in Gwagwalada Area Council.
