Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has approved the allocation of land titles to traditional rulers in the territory, alongside a full waiver of statutory fees.
The decision was announced during a meeting with members of the FCT Council of Traditional Rulers in Abuja, as part of efforts to strengthen ties between the government and indigenous institutions.
Wike explained that the waiver of all associated fees followed directives from President Bola Tinubu, noting that the move recognises the historical rights of indigenous communities in the FCT.
He stressed that it would be unfair for traditional rulers to bear the financial burden of securing legal titles to lands they and their ancestors have occupied for generations. The minister added that the initiative is also intended to promote peace and inclusiveness in the territory. (Vanguard News)
Highlighting the role of traditional institutions, Wike commended the monarchs for ensuring peaceful conduct during recent Area Council elections, describing their contribution as vital to stability in the FCT.
As part of additional support, he pledged to provide utility vehicles to traditional rulers to enhance their capacity in maintaining peace and order across their domains. (Vanguard News)
The minister also outlined ongoing infrastructure projects across satellite towns, including major road developments linking key areas within the territory.
Responding on behalf of the council, the Ona of Abaji and chairman, Alhaji Adamu Baba Yunusa, expressed appreciation for the gesture and reaffirmed the continued support of traditional rulers for the administration’s policies.
