AIHS Board Celebrates Festus Adebayo, Hails His Impact as Champion of Affordable Housing

The Board of the Africa International Housing Show (AIHS) has joined family, friends, and stakeholders across the housing sector to celebrate its Coordinator and Founder, Festus Adebayo, on the occasion of his birthday, describing him as a visionary leader and a tireless advocate for affordable housing in Africa.

In a statement marking the celebration, members of the AIHS Board commended Adebayo’s unwavering commitment to transforming the housing landscape through advocacy, partnerships, and sustained engagement with key stakeholders across the continent.

Leading the tributes, the Chairman of the AIHS Advisory Board, Surv. Suleiman Hassan Zarma, former Minister of Environment and former Minister of State for Power, Works and Housing, described Adebayo as a driving force in the housing sector.

“Festus Adebayo is a champion of affordable housing, a strong advocate, and a tireless force whose passion continues to inspire progress across the sector. His dedication to bringing stakeholders together and pushing forward practical solutions has positioned AIHS as a leading platform for housing development in Africa. His impact is not only visible but enduring, and we celebrate his remarkable contributions today and always.”

Other members of the Board also paid glowing tributes, highlighting his influence, energy, and commitment to advancing housing solutions.

Kecia Rust, Executive Director and Founder of the Centre for Affordable Housing Finance in Africa and Secretariat to the African Union for Housing Finance, praised Adebayo’s collaborative spirit and leadership:

“It is a great pleasure to celebrate the birthday of Bar Festus Adebayo, champion of affordable housing in Nigeria and the whole of Africa. We all learn from Festus and his enthusiasm and skill in bringing us together to share insights and to collaborate in our pursuit of affordable housing solutions in Africa. My Nigerian brother, may you have a wonderful celebration for your birthday this year, and very many more in the years to come! May you always have those who love and respect you, in your midst. Thank you for everything you do for affordable housing in Africa.”

Similarly, Tpl. Olutoyin Ayinde, former President of the Nigerian Institute of Town Planners (NITP), described him as a relentless voice in the housing sector:

“Festus Adebayo, the choleric, vibrant and restless apostle of affordable housing. There is perhaps no Nigerian that has done as much as this man in bringing awareness to the subject of providing shelter for the Nigerian citizen. May the future birth the very dreams he has for housing for all and promoting transparency in the housing industry. Happy birthday Festus.”

Also celebrating him, Olajumoke Adegunle, Business Unit Manager at Sika UK, commended his courage and influence:

“Happy Birthday to an exceptional affordable housing advocate, lawyer, and journalist! You are a champion for affordable housing, and your work continues to challenge practitioners, inform the public, and stand up for communities that need strong voices. Thank you for all you do and for being a courageous, passionate and energetic personality. Wishing you every success and happiness in the year ahead with good health.”

Other distinguished members of the Board, including His Royal Majesty, Oba Rilwan Babatunde Akiolu, Oba of Lagos and Chairman of the Board of Trustees; Hakeem Ogunniran, Vice Chairman of the Advisory Board; Surv. Rev. Dr. Ugochukwu Chime; Mr. Adeniyi Akinlusi; Ambassador Elijah Onyeagba; Mrs. Ify Ummunakwe-Okeke; Tpl. Umar Shuaib; Mr. Femi Adewole; Professor Charles Inyangete, Mr. Emmanuel Akinwumi and Mrs Flora Anne, also extended their warm congratulations, describing Adebayo as an icon whose contributions have significantly shaped the housing discourse in Nigeria and beyond.

They collectively acknowledged his leadership in building AIHS into Africa’s largest housing and construction platform, as well as his role in fostering dialogue, innovation, and partnerships aimed at addressing the continent’s housing deficit.

As the Founder of AIHS, Festus Adebayo has, over the years, championed initiatives including the Housing Development Advocacy Network (HDAN), Housing TV Africa, Housing Development Programme on AIT among others, that promote housing accessibility, transparency, and sustainable urban development, earning recognition as one of the leading voices in Africa’s housing sector.

The Board noted that his dedication continues to inspire a new generation of housing professionals and stakeholders, while reinforcing the importance of collaborative action in tackling Africa’s housing challenges.

As he marks another year, tributes continue to pour in, celebrating not just his achievements, but his enduring vision for a future where decent and affordable housing is accessible to all.
